March 30, 2010

We all know that window displays are a great way to grab the attention of passersby and entice them to enter your awesome store. With design getting better and better, and possibilities getting more vast.. there are some tips you may want to consider when thinking about a creative window display. It’s no lie that window displays are becoming more prominent and more sophisticated.

Ten Tips for Effective Window Displays

1. Grab attention – It takes seconds to walk past a store window, be sure your display is eye-catching, edgey, and engaging.
2.
Work with your clients - Your vendors most likely have posters and banners ready for your use, this way you can stretch your budget further for a worthwhile display.
3. Work with local artists – Ad agencies can get spendy, you may want to work with the art community in your city for a more expressive and unique outcome.
4. Work with others - Sometimes working with other local businesses, especially non-profits increase your brand awareness and place you in the ‘good will’ category, that’s always a plus.
5. Express holiday spirit - Develop marketing messages around upcoming holidays for a fun and relevant way to promote your store.
6. Think outside the box – Check out other window displays and make yours different, take risks and use graphics in places competitors don’t.
7. Make monthly changes - Make a yearly plan and update your window displays once a month for optimal results. People love new art!
8.  Consider lighting - Interior decorators will tell you lighting is everything. Avoid shadows and consider your main points of interest. Your display should be well lit at night and during the day.
9. Keep the windows clean – Filthy windows fail no matter what the graphics inside look like.
10. Keep a camera handy - Not only do you want to take snapshots of inspiring window displays. After all..  ”Imitation is the best form of flattery.” But you’ll also want to document all your window displays to stay fresh and original with each new display.

I have been trying to find the small tiles used to display prices in merchandising windows. I saw them in Florence, It about a month ago. Does anyone know where I can find them.
